Minnick applauds release of U.S. journalists

Congressman submitted resolution calling for release of Laura Ling, Euna Lee

Sandpoint, ID – Congressman Walt Minnick applauded news that American journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee were released today by North Korean officials. 

Minnick had on July 31 introduced a Congressional resolution (H. Res. 705) demanding that the government of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea immediately release the reporters, who were sentenced in June to 12 years in a North Korean labor camp. The resolution also condemned those camps as  egregious violations of human rights, and urged the United States government to demand that the DPRK immediately shut them down.
 
“I’m pleased that these reporters will return home safely to their families,” Minnick said. “I hope that the administration will continue to press the North Korean Government to release all political prisoners and close their prison camps.”

Minnick is currently in North Idaho meeting with economic development agencies and businesses as part of his month-long focus on job creation.
